US Preschools Show A Massive Decline In The Obesity Rate

It has been found the preschool children who have access to government food aid are attaining healthier body mass indexes in the US and the obesity rates seem to be declining at a steady rate. The earlier data showed the obesity rates to have dropped by 14% in 2016 and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found the rates to have fallen by 16% in 2010. The obesity in young children in the US was found to be on a higher scale between 2000 and 2010. The ethnic and racial squads had calculated the recent statistical decline in obesity. This real change has given the health experts a chance of hope to prevent obesity or completely eliminate it.

The children amid 2 – 4 years had access to food vouchers and other services when at the federal Women, Infants, and Children nutrition program. The US children that are almost 20% of them belonging to the specific age group had obtained the benefits in 2016. The nutrition program works towards including whole grains, fruits, and vegetables so as to help the health experts decline the obesity rate among children.

According to Dr. William Dietz, an ex-CDC obesity expert, called the change substantial despite a large group of the US children ranging in the overweight scale. About 15% of children aged 2 – 5 across the world were found to be obese in 2015 – 2016. As per the American Academy of Pediatrics, the obese children are at risk of heart disease, developing diabetes, and high blood pressure. The researchers from the University of Tartu, Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare, and the University of Helsinki have found the fear of foods, Food neophobia, may lead to bad dietary quality, increase the risk factors linked with chronic diseases, and thus increase the risk of developing lifestyle diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes.
